If you can access codes from the GPCM module, then the U0106 code is either intermittent or a memory code. If unable to communicate with the GPCM module, then the U0106 code that the other modules are setting is active, and the problem is there now. The most common failure is loss of power or ground. The only wrinkle - for those not used to Audi connectors - is that it was easier for me to remove the connected fuel pump module first, and then disconnect the connector from the module after it was out. Otherwise, the connection tab is on the underside of the module, and the module is screwed into some sheet metal, so it was difficult to get to. Make sure the boxes are unplugged (not just the sensors) and clean and tape them up. Check fuse #36 (I think) under hood should be 15a and replace if need be.
